OMG it's February already! All of you know this and are probably sitting there thinking "Duh I have a calendar!" I just can't believe we're in the second month of 2010 already although I am happy about it. When you are a Midwestern girl in the frozen tundra of MI, the longest months to get through are Jan, Feb, & March. The winter blah's take over and you're just ready for some sunshine.
Weekend was nice. Not long enough, but isn't that always the case...
Friday night we went to Snowfest in Frankenmuth to check out the ice & snow sculptures and more importantly....the warming tent! You can get hot chocolate with shots of peppermint or butterscotch schnapps! Mmmmm fabulous! We danced ourselves silly and found out our good friends Nicki & Justin were engaged!!
Saturday we CLEANED! Our house is not normally a pig pen but lately I think the weather has been zapping the ambition out of me. Anyway, we were little tornadoes on our place Saturday and I have to give it up to my husband who was on the front lines fighting the dust & dirty socks right along with me. He did an awesome job of helping me and putting up with my OCD-ness.
Sunday was our day of rest. I went to church by myself (Brad worked this weekend...3rd shift so he gets a break) then we seriously vegged. I made meatloaf & mashed potatoes for dinner and we napped and were lazy. It was fantastic.
Our cow came in Saturday so I defrosted a roast I will make tonight for dinner. I can not wait to check it out. Not only is it hormone free beef, the cost came out to about 1.67/lb! I'm sorry but I pay more than that for ground sirloin alone and this was: ground sirloin, steaks, roasts, & ribs. Our extra freezer is STUFFED! I got 25 1 lb. packages of gs...so not only is it healthier on our bodies...it helps the wallet too!

Friday FAIL!
Yes I know today is Thursday...now but I've seriously had to remind myself and a few others a couple of times today of the fact that today is only Thursday. We still have one more day to get through peeps...but we're getting there.
If you could see me you would see the mangled pile of "Thursday but thought it was Friday" mess I am. Hair is blow dried because of the sub zero temps today and that's about all she wrote. :) Seriously it is F R E E Z I N G here today and will be the same story tomorrow. I have lived here my entire life, this weather is nothing new to me and I have antifreeze running through my veins but this bone chilling stuff is getting old. I'm ready for some warmth. I won't even get greedy, I'd even take 35.... :)
Onto other things - I watched Oprah yesterday and I have to say I was intrigued. I am not a mindless Oprah follower but this was about food and where it comes from. She was talking about the documentary Food Inc. and I am watching this tonight when I get home from work. The big business of food is amazing and appalling. I took a class in college on Business Ethics and we discussed the food industry when we read the book "Fast Food Nation" it was interesting then but I'm looking forward to watching this movie tonight and forming my own opinion. I suggest others to do the same.
I do know one thing that disgusted me that was discussed on the show was how many hormones and antibiotics are given to chickens, pigs, & cows while "growing" them on the farm for certain companies. I guess my thing is that I'm ingesting that into my body because the animal did...yikes.
I am no hippie but the thought of ingesting chemicals I don't know about or didn't choose to take kind of freaks me out a little. Therefore Brad and I have made the decision to try to buy meat from local farmers when possible. It helps the local economy, we in turn "know" the cows, and my sis in law swears there is a difference in taste and quality. We get our first order soon....I'll let you know how it goes! :)
I should get back on my ice flow and float through the rest of my Thursday....
